Saturday football
No real stand-out ties this weekend as the FA Cup progresses to the fourth round. Television thinks there could be an upset on the cards in their televised games – not least those at Deepdale and Pride Park.

ACCRINGTON STANLEY vs LEEDS UNITED (1230)
Accrington Stanley, who are they? So went that old advert for nice cold, ice cold milk back in the day. They sit perilously close to the drop zone in League One, but league positions count for little where the Cup is concerned. Recent results include a 4-0 drubbing at Derby (yikes), a 3-1 defeat at Barnsley, a draw at Lincoln and victory over Bristol Rovers. Leeds are also just above the relegation places, albeit two divisions higher, and they may not be relishing a hard trip to Lancashire. Could be interesting. Away win.

WALSALL vs LEICESTER CITY (1230)
The Cup AND local pride. What could possibly go wrong? Away win.

BLACKBURN ROVERS vs BIRMINGHAM CITY (1500)
Home win.

BRISTOL CITY vs WEST BROMWICH ALBION (1500)
Home win.

FULHAM vs SUNDERLAND (1500)
Home win.

IPSWICH TOWN vs BURNLEY (1500)
Away win.

LUTON TOWN vs GRIMSBY (1500)
Home win.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY vs FLEETWOOD MAC (1500)
Home win.

SOUTHAMPTON vs BLACKPOOL (1500)
Tangerine dreams fade. Home win.

PRESTON NORTH END vs TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (1800)
Well then. Preston lie two places off the Championship play-offs, but may trade league progress for a win today. Does Antonio Conte know the pedigree of his opponents today? Anything but a win will have him tearing his hair out. It would be great fun to see him bald at eight o’clock this evening. Away win.

MANCHESTER UNITED vs READING (2000)
Routine. A decent away day pay day for Reading. Home win.

*SUNDAY*

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION vs LIVERPOOL (1330)
The only all-Premier League tie of the round. Don’t bet against the Seagulls. Home win.

STOKE CITY vs STEVENAGE (1400)
Barring late-season cataclysm, Stoke are near-enough safe for another season. Stevenage are riding high in League Two and have promotion in their sights. This will be a good test for them. Have they got what it takes to overcome their out of-sorts hosts? David and Goliath of the lower reaches of English football. Away win.

WREXHAM vs SHEFFIELD UNITED (1630)
Who can forget our epic ties against Wrexham in the early 1980s? Fortune has not been kind to them since and they now find themselves fighting to return to the Football League. But they do sit at the top of the National League, so have some fight in them. The Blades, meanwhile, are pushing for a return to the Premier League. Should be straightforward. Away win.

*MONDAY*

DERBY COUNTY vs WEST HAM UNITED (1945)
Botanically, the banana is a berry and its plant is a herb not a tree. Its skin is most familiar when yellow, but it can also be red or purple or, as today’s game suggests, black and white with a dodgy accent. It is slippery and is known to have upended numerous trespassers. Although they find themselves in League One, the Rams are in a rich vein of form, having won their last five league games. The same cannot, sadly, be said of us. So the ingredients are all there for an upset that would do little to reignite David Moyes’ fortunes. He’ll have to field a strong team, which he’s said he would. Expect Antonio to play a significant part. It will be good to get this one out of the way in the most positive way possible. Away win.

I'm not into FA Cup weekends much, find them dull, but at least we're still in it and it's not a blank 'weekend'. Nick a win and get back to the proper football (losses) next weekend.

Preston would be a novel place for Kane to surpass Jimmy Greaves as their record goalscorer.

Thanks Coffee.

Yeah, hard to get excited about the afternoon games. The two later games I might watch up until the results are in the balance.

Derby are probably a championship side (points deduction relegated them). They have a few players with PL experience albeit older and slower. Sounds like the perfect match for our old slow players. Jason Knight is probably better than most of our midfielders. Could be hard fought. Might have to dig deep. Can Moyes motivate them?

Derby are unbeaten in 19 games so confidence will be high they can do it.

Big clubs disrespecting the FA Cup yet again Fulham made 7 changes !!!
I used to love FA cup weekends then the excitement of the draw for the next round....Apart from Man Utd when they refused to be involved in 1999 because they opted to play in the 2000 FIFA Club World Championship ! Money in the premier league has become clubs main priority which started with the league cup and now the FA cup by fielding reserve sides.

Watching Luton v Grimsby with no VAR, and it's so refreshing to see it called in real time. There's no getting the genie back in the bottle, but it's definitely made the game more tedious and boring.

Re: Saturday football
Owners and Board members decide what the priorities are and its not about the domestic cups . Its got nothing to do with what the fans or managers want. Its all about money more than ever these days.

That was a decent cup tie.

Neither side at full strength but both trying flat out to win.

Sunderland had such a young team, maybe they are heading for a comeback

Did I just hear that right? Reading have 3000 fans at Old Trafford? What sort of fucking support is that away v Man U in the cup when you normally get about 9000?

Yes it's on TV and a late KO but 3000?
